Do you have one or several missing teeth? Are you looking for a natural-looking and durable teeth restoration option? We have the solution for you in the form of dental implants.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium metal rods that are surgically secured into the patient's jawbone to act as artificial tooth roots to support the prosthetic tooth, also called a dental crown.

Implants are an ideal tooth replacement option for those who have lost or damaged single or multiple teeth due to injury, trauma, periodontal disease, or other reasons. One of the major advantages that dental implants offer is that they are strong, firm, last long, and look natural.

A dental implant consists of three components:

  • A titanium metal post acts as the tooth root to provide a solid support for the crown.
  • A connector piece or an abutment attaches the crown to the implant.
  • The dental crown, which is made from synthetic materials, resembles a natural tooth and acts as a replacement for the missing tooth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • When a patient with missing or damaged teeth undergo the dental implant procedure at Larsen Dental and Implant Care, they are likely to enjoy the following benefits:
  • Since dental implants look and function similar to natural teeth, the patient's mouth's full functionality and aesthetics can be restored with dental implants.
  • Implants are permanent restorations - when they fuse with the jaw bone through the process called osseointegration, they replace the natural tooth root.
  • Since dental implants are fixed in the jawbone, they do not pose any risk of getting slipped from the patient's mouth.
  • Placement of implants does not need any bridgework or cutting down the adjacent teeth, and hence, does not affect the health of the other teeth.
  • Dental implants are a durable and long-lasting teeth restoration option.
  • By acting as a replacement for lost tooth roots, dental implants help maintain the integrity of the patient's bone structure.
  • Dental implants help evenly distribute the patient's bite forces throughout the mouth by replacing missing teeth.
  • With dental implants, patients can save themselves from loose-fitting, uncomfortable, or bulky dentures.

Dental Implant Placement - Procedure

The dental implant procedure entails several stages. The dentist starts by creating a treatment plan with the help of dental scans and X-rays. The procedure starts with administering local anesthesia to the patient to numb the area, and an incision is made in their gums to insert the implant into the jawbone. Once the implant is surgically placed, the dentist closes the gums over the implant.

The bone will fuse and grow around the implant over a period of a few months. Once the implant fuses with the jaw bone, the dentist attaches an abutment to the implant to hold the artificial tooth.

A crown is then custom-made and placed on the top of the implant and abutment to complete the tooth restoration process.
